DC DC Charger 2nd Gen 4Runner. House Electrical System Upgrade!
Переглядів 411Рік тому
I've been working on the interior house electrical system on the 4runner. It was time for a BIG upgrade! Renogy dc dc charge controller and a lithium ion battery are the foundation of this system. I had a 95 4runner with the 3vze 3.slow v6, loved the vehicle but hated the engine, simply a dog of an engine, gutless and problematic, you never knew what it would run or go like from day to day, that was many years ago and ironically I miss it, had many different 4wd's since and now have a 94 fzj80 landcruiser, absolutely love love this thing, it's so sweet and cool at the same time 😊

    You are the man i need to speak to. I took my 93 Warrior with the 3vze to mechanic to replace valve cover gasket. He then discovers my driver side camshaft has wear on one lobe. His price for valve cover gaskets, camshaft install, and water pump/timing belt is $2700! I know i can do it all myself except the camshaft. Is it that difficult to change out? Can i just drop the new one in place of the old? Also i assume the valves will need to be adjusted after new cam is in right? I was even told the heads must come off to install new camshafts.

    Yes! Congratulations. Well maintained machine. I made the mistake of letting go of my 1st gen 7 years ago over an AC. 1 year ago I purchased a 2nd gen from a young guy who drove it into the ground, and parked it in a sheep pasture 4 years ago where it sat. I trailered it back home and began the process of bringing the beast back to life. Today, it runs very well. I have learned two things. 1. OEM parts only in hard to access parts of the engine and trans. 2. Working on these machines is about leverage, access, and factory specs. Your videos have provided insight and confidence. Thank you Sir!

    • @AgileWoodsman
      @AgileWoodsman 2 місяці тому

      Tip 1 is have fun!!! No stress. Just be in the monet and enjoy! Other than that, as far as the rig goes, get her maintenance up to date. Check u joints on the drives haft, steering, trans and diff fluid, hoses etc. All the things we usually don't look at. Carry a small tool kit and a decent bottle jack. Gorilla tape and water. Just enjoy! Post if you have more questions.

      @bobbyd8503 2 місяці тому

      @@AgileWoodsman Thanks, I was planning a similar trip a few years ago, but the virus screwed that up. One of the first things I did was have my mechanic go over it from front to back and make a list of maintenance and repairs that were needed. This gave me time to space out work so it wasn't rushed and was financially manageable.

    I picked my 1995 second gen off eBay almost two years ago and flew up to Denver to pick it up and drove it back to Texas, 28 hours straight and it made it. My main car is a 91 Pontiac Bonneville I would drive it across country my Toyota 4Runner would not trust it. I don’t drive mine much drive it the other day and it wasn’t making a Geary noise. My wife had 356,000 on her 3.4 and it got totaled out she has a 96 Tacoma now with 245,000 not hating on 3.0 at all they are just a lot of work to keep running. I know you have done a ton to that thing.

    • @AgileWoodsman
      @AgileWoodsman 2 місяці тому

      Well I did a lot because I chose to, not much was actually wrong with it. Mine has been pretty much rock solid for the almost 20 years ive had it. Fluid changes, tires, front brakes only once, never rears yet. Mine hasn't been a ton of work at all compared to most other cars. I think my crown vic was the only other one that would compare. Does your Pontiac have the 3400? That's a decent motor. Unfortunately the rest of the car around them were poorly made. I had a brand new Pontiac in the 90s and I've never bought a GM since. And I grew up a Pontiac guy. My first was a 68 firebird. Has 2 trans am's also.

      Yeah it'd a tough one. As far as I can tell not much is available from toyota or aftermarket anymore as far as throttle body goes. I wonder is that little part will ultimately be what makes these have an end date rather than perpetually rebuildable like a classic car is.
